Belt, vest or backpack? What’s the best fit for me?
Here’s a little guide to help you choose the right equipment for your various activities.
Let’s get back to basics and identify the main characteristics of each Salomon pack.
Salomon Belts are useful during short runs; you can fit your hydration solution, your phone and even something to eat.
Salomon Hydration Vest Packs are tailor-made for running, designed to be worn higher on your back and contoured snugly to minimize any movement during your run. It's essential to seek out a vest pack that aligns perfectly with your body shape, ensuring you select the appropriate size and the most ergonomic fit to match your physique.
Salomon Multi-activity Backpacks are more versatile and can be used for various activities besides running. If you’re are new to trail running, a backpack is to be considered; however, it’s important to note that backpacks don’t stay in place as they tend to bounce and shift more that vest packs.
Keep it handy
Bear in mind that a good running pack is one where you can reach all your stuff without having to take it off. The packs usually have several stash pockets for you to keep everything you need (food, water, etc.); however, it is very important you don’t pack anything that you won’t need. It will only be a burden for you during your run. So, think ahead and pack well.
Pack Capacity
Now that we’ve got this covered, it’s also important to know about the capacity required for each run.
The capacity of your bag depends on various conditions such as the travel distance, if you are running for a competition or how spaced out are the aid stations. So, here’s a guide to help you choose the right pack for the right track:
- Less than 1 hour: either a belt or a 2-litre vest pack
- 1 to 2 hours: 2L to 5L
- 3 hours +: 6L to 10L
- Ultra-trails, runs off the beaten track: 12L
